Rayados beat Real Salt Lake 3-0 in their Leagues Cup 2023 debut at the America First Fiel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Rayados started the match attacking and, although Salt Lake had the first chance of the match, it was Monterrey who struck the first blow.

Rodrigo Aguirre advanced with Maxi Meza, who from the end line sent a low cross that defender Justen Glad tried to deflect, but put the ball into his own net.

13' REAL SALT LAKE 0-2 RAYADOS | German Berterame

Maxi Meza laid it off for German Berterame, who shot across goal for his second of the match.

At minute 25, Rodrigo Aguirre had to leave the field due to an injury and his place was taken by Rogelio Funes Mori.

Minutes later, Erick Aguirre sent in a cross. With an accurate shot, Funes Mori threatened to place the ball in the corner, but the goalkeeper deflected it for a corner kick. 

At minute 35, Real Salt Lake's Cristian Arango shot across the face of Esteban Andrada, but the ball hit the outside of Monterrey’s goal. 

During the first minutes of the second half, Real Salt Lake pushed, but Rayados kept attacking and managed to score one more goal, for the definitive 3-0. 

Jefferson Savarino took a corner kick at minute 70. Esteban Andrada failed to keep the ball. Cristian Arango headed the ball off the post!

74' REAL SALT LAKE 0-3 RAYADOS | German Berterame

On a set piece from a free kick taken by Maxi Meza, German Berterame entered the box unmarked and headed home to score his brace and Monterrey's third. 

At minute 87, German Berterame came close to scoring his hat-trick with a powerful left-footed shot after a cross from Jesus Gallardo, but the goalkeeper sent the ball to the corner.

With this result, Rayados reached 3 points and are now group leaders.

On Sunday, July 30, at 7:00 p.m., Rayados will visit the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field for matchday 2 of the Leagues Cup 2023.
