In a thrilling game at Lumen Field, Rayados defeated Seattle Sounders 4-2 on Sunday to move forward the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup 2023.

Seattle Sounders started the match pushing hard and scored two goals in the first 5 minutes of the match. However, with a great performance by German Berterame, Rayados turned the score around.

After a foul on the edge of the box, Nicolas Lodeiro took the free kick and opened the scoring for the home side.

5' SEATTLE SOUNDERS 2-0 RAYADOS | Jordan Morris

Léo Chú sent in a cross that Jordan Morris headed in for Seattle's second goal.

After a series of bounces inside the box between Funes Mori and Joao Rojas, German Berterame fired in a left-footed shot at the 28' that the Seattle goalkeeper saved.

31' SEATTLE SOUNDERS 2-1 RAYADOS | German Berterame

Sebastian Vegas sent in a cross from the left flank. German Berterame connected with a first-time shot, but goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland denied him. On the rebound, Berterame fired in a cross to send the ball into the back of the net.

Albert Rusnak fouled Hector Moreno inside the box at minute 45 and the referee awarded Monterrey a penalty kick.

With a powerful shot, German Berterame made the penalty kick effective and tied the match.

In the second half, Rayados sought the lead from the first minutes and Jordi Cortizo, who had come on as a substitute, led the way to victory.

German Berterame got past a defender and set up Jordi Cortizo, who fired in from outside the box to score a goal and give Monterrey the lead.

Esteban Andrada had a great reaction at minute 57 to keep out a goal by Peru's Raul Ruidiaz.

Jordi Cortizo opened up for Luis Romo, who, in front of the goalkeeper's exit, chipped the ball and German Berterame closed and pushed the ball to score his first "hat-trick" with Rayados.

At minute 87, Seattle Sounders' Yeimar Gomez was sent off for elbowing Ali Avila.

With this victory, Rayados secured their place in the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup 2023 as first place in Group West 2, and will await their opponent, which will be determined tonight.
