In the search for sporting growth and the fulfillment of objectives, Rayadas del Monterrey present Merel van Dongen as a new player for the Torneo Clausura 2024.
The three-time World Cup participant and World Cup runner-up comes to the Rayadas on a permanent transfer from Women’s team Atletico de Madrid.
The Dutch defender began her soccer career in the Netherlands playing for Ter Leede, and won the 2010-2011 season title in the Hoofdklasse, the amateur league of the Dutch championship.
A year later, Merel joined ADO Den Haag, where she made her professional debut and won the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup.
In 2012, the player decided to emigrate to college soccer in the United States, which led to a call-up to the Netherlands Women's National Team in 2013.
Two years later, she returned to her native country to join Ajax, with whom she won two Eredivisie championships and two KNVB Cups.
Her outstanding performances took her to Spanish soccer in 2018, when she was signed by Real Betis, and two years later she arrived at Atlético de Madrid.
With the “colchonero” team she played 4 years, in which she conquered the Supercopa de España in 2021 and the Copa de la Reina in the 2022-2023 Season.
With the Netherlands National Team, she has participated in the World Cups Canada 2015 and France 2019, in which she achieved the runner-up position, and Australia-New Zealand 2023.
