JONATHAN OROZCO RECEIVES EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE AT ESTADIO BBVA!

18 de February de 2024. 9:39 pm.

After announcing his retirement from soccer on Friday, Jonathan Orozco, former historical player of Rayados del Monterrey, received a tribute this Sunday at the Estadio BBVA for his nearly 20-year soccer career.

Jona received the recognition and gratitude of the Club and the fans at Estadio BBVA, in a tribute that took place prior to the Rayados vs. Toluca game on Matchday 7 of Torneo Clausura 2024.

Jonathan emerged from the Club's youth academy and earned the affection of the fans for his outstanding performances with Monterrey, being present at important moments for the team and feeling the blue and white colors in a unique way.

He made his professional debut with Rayados on August 13, 2005. During his time with Club de Futbol Monterrey, Jona won the Liga BBVA MX championships in Apertura 2009 and Apertura 2010, the CONCACAF Champions League in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the InterLiga in 2010 and third place in the 2012 Japan Club World Cup.

Sunday's recognition of the former multi-champion goalkeeper began with the now traditional Rayados parachutes that dropped down to the fans in the stands of the stadium, with commemorative Jona t-shirts.

To commemorate the legacy of the historic Rayado player, former directors Jorge Urdiales and Luis Miguel Salvador attended, as well as former players Walter Ayovi, Jared Borgetti, Ricardo Osorio, Jesus Zavala, Juan de Dios Ibarra and William Paredes, who made a tribute to him.

Jonathan took to the field as he did many times before defending the albiazul goal, but this time he was accompanied by his wife Nytze and his sons Luka and Bastian.

Afterwards, Manuel Filizola, President of the Club's Board of Directors; Jose Antonio Noriega, Sports President; and Pedro Esquivel, Executive Vice-President, rewarded the multi-champion with an award.

"El Hincha que Juega", as Jona was popularly known for the love he always showed for the blue and white colors, led a cheer in which the fans present at the stadium participated.

Moved to tears, Jona walked to the north goal, where he symbolically hung up a pair of his iconic gloves to represent his official retirement from the field.

At the end of the tribute, "Jona" took pictures with the guests and embraced his family in an emotional moment to end his soccer career.

Thank you, Jona for ever!
