He was part of the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup championship winning team in Peru.

He made his debut in 2006 with Pumas, where he earned a starting position. In 2007, at the age of 19, he was signed by AZ Alkmaar in Holland, where he met Celso Ortiz and won the Eredivisie and Super Cup titles.

He has played in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Qatar, and played in FIFA World Cups in 2010 South Africa, 2014 Brazil, 2018 Russia and 2022 Qatar. 

With his experience and solid defensive skills, he has become a key player for Rayados.
