Initiated in the Club's youth academy, he began his career in the Third Division and made his debut in the First Team in the Torneo Apertura 2010, at the age of 17.
With Rayados, he contributed to winning the Liga Apertura 2010 and the Liga de Campeones de CONCACAF championship between 2011 and 2013.
In the summer of 2013, "Tecatito" migrated to Twente, in The Netherlands , where he was part of the Eredivisie's 2014-2015 season's Best 11.
Two years later he arrived at Porto, Portugal, where he won three Primeira Liga titles, two Cups and two Super Cups.
In 2022 he signed for Sevilla, from Spain, with whom he won the Europa League that same year.
Thanks to his good performances, he is constantly called up to the Mexican National Team, where he won the Copa Oro 2015, in addition to having participated in the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018.
