She began her career at Club Social y Deportivo Municipal in Guatemala in 2004. Three years later, she joined Unifut-Rosal, where she won four consecutive Guatemalan League titles from 2010 to 2013. She was also the league's top scorer three times, in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
In 2014, Ana joined Houston Dash in the NWSL, becoming the first Guatemalan footballer to play abroad.
A year later, she moved to Spain, where she played for Dínamo Guadalajara, Rayo Vallecano, Sporting de Huelva, and Madrid C.F.F., then Martínez continued her career in Italy, playing for Napoli, Roma C.F., U.C. Sampdoria, and Pomigliano d'Arco.
Ana Lucía is one of the most outstanding athletes in her country and was part of the team that secured the club’s first-ever league back-to-back championship.
